Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and areito ("we", "us") when you use areito at areito.me ("the service"). By creating an account you accept them. They are written in plain language on purpose — if anything is unclear, ask us before agreeing rather than after.

1. What the service does

areito lets you keep your professional history in one place, generate a CV from it, and optionally publish a public portfolio page. It is offered as-is, and it is under active development.

2. Your account

• You must be at least 16 years old to create an account.
• Give us an email address you actually control. We use it to verify your account and to let you reset your password — nothing else works without it.
• Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account, so tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.
• One person, one account. Do not register on someone else's behalf.

3. Your content stays yours

Everything you put into areito — your history, writing, images, documents — remains yours. We claim no ownership of it.

To run the service at all, we need your permission to do specific technical things with that content: store it, back it up, resize and re-encode images, render it into CV and portfolio layouts, and serve it to visitors when you choose to publish. You grant us a licence to do those things, limited to operating and improving the service. It is not exclusive, we charge nothing for it, and it ends when you delete the content or your account. We will not sell your content, license it to anyone else, or use it to advertise to you.

4. Content about other people

Some parts of a professional profile describe people who are not you — referees and their contact details, named recommendations, colleagues in a project write-up, faces in a photograph.

You are responsible for having the right to upload that information, and for telling those people if their details will appear on a public page. Do not publish someone's phone number, email address, or written recommendation without their agreement. If a person asks us to remove information about themselves, we may remove it from your published portfolio, and we will tell you when we do.

5. What you may not do

• Misrepresent who you are, or publish a profile claiming someone else's identity, qualifications, or work as your own.
• Upload anything unlawful, defamatory, or infringing on someone else's copyright.
• Use the service to host files, redirects, or pages unrelated to a professional profile — it is not general file storage or a link shortener.
• Attempt to break, overload, or probe the service, other people's accounts, or the infrastructure it runs on. Genuine security research is welcome, but email us first at privacy@areito.me.
• Scrape the service in bulk, or use automated means to create accounts.

6. Publishing a portfolio

Publishing is your choice and it is off until you turn it on. When you publish, the parts of your profile you have marked visible become readable by anyone with the link, with no login required.

Public means public. Search engines and other services may index, cache, and copy a published page, and we cannot pull those copies back. Unpublishing stops us from serving the page, but it does not erase what third parties have already captured. Think of publishing as one-way, and decide accordingly what goes on a public page — a home address and a phone number usually should not.

7. CV import and AI-generated output

If you use CV import, we send the document you upload to Anthropic, which uses a Claude model to read it and return structured data we can fill your profile with. See the Privacy Policy for what that means for your data.

This step is a convenience, not a source of truth. Automated extraction gets things wrong: dates shift, employers merge, details vanish. Check the result before you rely on it or publish it. You remain responsible for the accuracy of your own profile, and we are not liable for consequences of an import error you did not catch.

8. Availability and changes

We make no promise of uptime. The service may be unavailable for maintenance, or because something broke. Features may change or be removed as it develops.

If we ever decide to shut the service down, we will give you reasonable notice by email and time to export your data first.

9. Suspending or closing accounts

We may suspend or delete an account that breaks these terms, particularly sections 4 and 5, or where we are legally required to. Where circumstances allow, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right first. Serious cases — impersonation, unlawful content, attacks on the service — may be acted on immediately.

10. Closing your own account

You can delete your account yourself at any time from your profile settings. It removes your profile, uploads, and published portfolio. Deletion is immediate and permanent, so export anything you want to keep beforehand. The Privacy Policy sets out exactly what is deleted and when backups age out.

11. Liability

The service is provided without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We are not liable for lost profits, lost opportunities, or lost or corrupted data, and our total liability to you is limited to any amount you have paid us in the previous twelve months — which, while the service is free, is nothing.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. If you are a consumer, you keep your statutory rights.

12. Changes to these terms

We record which version of these terms you accepted when you signed up. If we change them substantively, we will publish the new version with a new date and notify account holders by email or in the app. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, delete your account.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and its courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, you may still have the right to bring proceedings in your own country.
